The room before the room

Why the approach to a room often determines how settled it feels once you enter.

The room before the room Temporary placeholder · Will be replaced with real project photography as soon as possible

Before a room can hold furniture, it has to receive a person. The turn from a hall, the pause beside a doorway, and the first line of sight all shape that arrival.

We often begin a plan just outside the room in question. From there, we can see whether a chair blocks the invitation inward or whether a window pulls the eye past the place meant for gathering. A small change in the approach can do more than another object inside.

This is one reason thresholds matter. They are not leftover strips between finished spaces. They prepare the pace of the house.
